Hipo
El hipo es un involuntario espasmo del diafragma; típicamente repetitivo varias veces por minuto. El brusco flujo de aire dentro de los pulmones causa que la epiglotis se cierre, creando el "hic" . Puede ser también por fallo del duodeno.
El diafragma casi siempre funciona a la perfección. Desciende cuando inhalas para ayudarte a llevar aire a los pulmones y sube cuando exhalas para poder expulsar el aire de los pulmones. Pero a veces el diafragma se irrita y cuando esto sucede, sube de manera brusca y hace que la respiración sea diferente de lo normal. Cuando esta respiración irregular llega a la laringe, se produce el hipo.
