Duke
A duke (male) or duchess (female) can be either a monarch ruling over a duchy or a member of the nobility, historically of highest rank below the monarch. The title comes from French duc, itself from the Latin dux, 'leader', a term used in republican Rome to refer to a military commander without an official rank (particularly one of Germanic or Celtic origin), and later coming to mean the leading military commander of a province.

Herzog
Herzog, von althochdeutsch: herizogo – „der vor dem Heer zieht“, ist ein Adelstitel. In Frankreich entspricht er dem duc, in Großbritannien dem duke, in Spanien dem duque, in Italien dem duca und im Portuguiesischem dem duque. Letztere gehen etymologisch auf den lateinischen Titel dux („Anführer“) zurück.

Hertig
Hertig är en titel för vissa högre adelsmän eller manliga medlemmar av kungahus, den motsvarande kvinnliga titeln är hertiginna, oftast regerande över ett hertigdöme. Titeln ärkehertig är en titel som i rang avses stå mellan hertig och kung.

Diuk
Diuk (z ang. duke, fr. duc, wł. duca, łac. dux) - tytuł arystokratyczny odnoszący do jurysdykcji ziemskiej.
W języku polskim do dziś nie ma prawidłowego tłumaczenia. Najczęściej tłumaczy się jako "książę" (niekrólewskiej krwi). W języku czeskim np. tłumaczy się jako "wojewoda". Nazwa pochodzi od duce, ducere - przewodzić. Podobnie diuk w języku niemieckim to Herzog - od herzen - przewodzić. Stąd na wojnę wiedzie czyli wojewoda. Najbardziej znany diuk to wielki diuk (książę) Luksemburga (Grossherzog von Luxemburg, Grand Duke of Luxemburg, Veliki Vojvoda Luxemburga).
