Herpetology
Herpetology is the branch of zoology concerned with the study of amphibians (including frogs, toads, salamanders, newts, and gymnophiona) and reptiles (including snakes, lizards, amphisbaenids, turtles, terrapins, tortoises, crocodilians, and the tuataras). Batrachology is a further subdiscipline of herpetology concerned with the study of amphibians alone.

Herpetologie
Herpetologie (von griechisch herpeton = kriechendes Ding) ist ein Teilgebiet der Zoologie. Es ist die Lehre und Kunde von den Tierklassen der Amphibien (Lurche) und Reptilien (Kriechtiere).

Herpétologie
L‘herpétologie (du grec ancien ερπετόν / herpetón, « qui rampe, reptile ») est la branche de l'histoire naturelle qui traite des reptiles et des amphibiens. Elle aborde leur classification, leur écologie, leur comportement, leur physiologie, leur anatomie ainsi que les espèces fossiles.

Herpetologia
Herpetologia (z gr. herpeton - "pełzać" i logos "nauka" czyli nauka o zwierzętach pełzających) - dział zoologii badający płazy i gady.
W obrębie tej nauki wyróżnia się niekiedy jeszcze batrachologię (płazy) i reptiliologię (gady), ale w zasadzie najczęściej używanym określeniem jest herpetologia. Wspólna nauka badająca dwie osobne gromady to wynik tego, że przez jakiś czas (również za życia Linneusza) płazy i gady były zaliczane do jednej grupy (na podstawie budowy serca). Zmieniło się to dopiero w 2 połowie XVIII wieku, kiedy wyodrębniona została gromada gadów.
