Hepatitis A (formerly known as infectious hepatitis) is an acute infectious disease of the liver  caused by the hepatovirus hepatitis A virus. Most commonly transmitted by the fecal-oral route, such as contaminated food, hepatitis A does not typically have a chronic stage and does not cause permanent liver damage. The patient's immune system makes antibodies against the hepatitis A virus that confer immunity against future infection. A vaccine is available that will prevent infection from hepatitis A for at least ten years.[1]

L'hépatite A, (anciennement connue sous le nom d'hépatite infectieuse), est une hépatite virale, une maladie infectieuse aiguë du Foie causée par le virus de l'hépatite A, à transmission le plus souvent oro-fécale par des aliments ou de l'eau contaminés. Chaque année, environ 10 millions de personnes sont infectées par le virus dans le monde. Le temps qui s’écoule entre l'infection et l'apparition des symptômes, (période d'incubation), est de deux à six semaines et la durée moyenne d'incubation est de 28 jours.

Die Hepatitis A ist eine durch das Hepatitis-A-Virus verursachte Infektionskrankheit. Hauptsymptom ist eine akute Entzündung der Leber (Hepatitis). Die Hepatitis A verläuft niemals chronisch und heilt meist ohne ernsthafte Komplikationen spontan aus. Sie wird durch verunreinigtes Wasser oder Lebensmittel (z. B. Muscheln) übertragen und tritt in unseren Breiten meist als importierte Erkrankung nach einem Aufenthalt in Risikogebieten auf. Eine Impfung ist der derzeit beste Schutz gegen eine Hepatitis A.

Wirus zapalenia wątroby typu A, HAV (z ang. Hepatitis A Virus, oficjalna nazwa enterowirus 72) - ssRNA wirus z rodziny Picornaviridae. HAV jest wirusem o średnicy 27 nm i symetrii ikosaedralnej. Znany jest tylko jeden serotyp tego wirusa. HAV jest przyczyną wirusowego zapalenia wątroby typu A, tzw. żółtaczki pokarmowej.
