Hemoglobin, also spelled haemoglobin and abbreviated Hb, is the iron-containing oxygen-transport metalloprotein in the red blood cells of the blood in vertebrates and other animals. In mammals the protein makes up about 97% of the red cell’s dry content, and around 35% of the total content (including water). Hemoglobin transports oxygen from the lungs or gills to the rest of the body, such as to the muscles, where it releases its load of oxygen. Hemoglobin also has a variety of other gas-transport and effect-modulation duties, which vary from species to species, and may be quite diverse in invertebrates.

L'hémoglobine est une protéine dont la principale fonction est le transport du dioxygène dans l'organisme humain et chez les autres vertébrés. L'hémoglobine se trouve essentiellement à l'intérieur des globules rouges du sang ce qui leur confère leur couleur rouge. L'hémoglobine est constituée de quatre globines et de quatre molécules d'hème. Le nom d'hémoglobine provient de deux mots: hème et globine. On la symbolise par « Hb ». Une molécule d'hème est constituée d'un ion fer complexé par une porphyrine.

Als Hämoglobin (Hb) bezeichnet man den eisenhaltigen roten Blutfarbstoff in den roten Blutkörperchen (Erythrozyten) der Wirbeltiere (und einiger Mollusken sowie weniger Crustaceen und Insekten) und seine Varianten. Es stellt wie auch das Myoglobin einen wichtigen Sauerstoff-Transporteur im Körper dar. Das Säuger-Hämoglobin besteht aus vier Untereinheiten, wobei jede aus einem eisenhaltigen Protoporphyrin, dem Häm, als prosthetische Gruppe (Nichtproteinanteil) und einem Proteinanteil – dem Globulin – besteht. Die Häm-Gruppe ist außerdem für die rote Farbe des Hämoglobins verantwortlich.

Hemoglobin - creature dall'inferno è un film del genere horror diretto da Peter Svatek uscito in Italia il 31 luglio 1997, prodotto da Peter Kroonenburg e distribuito da Cecchi Gori Group. La storia del film è basata sul breve racconto di H.P.Lovecraft : The Lurking Fear. Il film è uscito nelle sale cinematografiche in Canada (paese d'origine) e Stati Uniti da marzo 1997 con il titolo: Bleeders.
