Heliograph
A heliograph (, meaning "sun", and , meaning "write") is a wireless solar telegraph that signals by flashes of sunlight (generally using Morse code) reflected by a mirror. The flashes are produced by momentarily pivoting the mirror, or by interrupting the beam with a shutter. The heliograph was a simple but effective instrument for instantaneous optical communication over long distances during the late 19th and early 20th century. Its main uses were military, survey and forest protection work. Heliographs were standard issue in the British and Australian armies until the 1960s, and were used by the Pakistani army as late as 1975.

Heliograph
Ein Heliograph (deutsch: Sonnenschreiber) ist eine Bezeichnung für zwei verschiedene Geräte:
- ein im 19. Jahrhundert erfundener Spiegeltelegraph zur Nachrichtenübermittlung im militärischen Bereich, siehe Heliograph (Nachrichtenübertragung)
- ein Gerät zur Messung der Sonnenscheindauer eines Tages, siehe Sonnenscheinautograph

Heliograph (Nachrichtenübertragung)
Ein Heliograf bzw. -graph nutzt einen Spiegel zur Reflexion von Sonnenlicht zu einem entfernten Beobachter. Bei einer Bewegung des Spiegels sieht der entfernte Beobachter Lichtblitze, die dazu genutzt werden können, Informationen durch eine vordefinierte Signalkodierung zu übertragen.

Heliograaf
Een heliograaf is een apparaat om snel berichten over grote afstanden te versturen met hulp van spiegels en het licht van de zon.
De heliograaf werd al in de Oudheid gebruikt (heliograaf is afgeleid uit het Grieks en betekent letterlijk zonneschrijver) en is een van de oudste manieren om snel berichten over grote afstanden te versturen. De eerste heliografen zijn gepolijste schilden waarmee zonlicht weerkaatst wordt van het ene punt naar het andere. Door het schild heen en weer te bewegen of er een scherm tussen te houden, kan men bepaalde signalen maken.
