Hectare
A hectare (symbol ha, pronounced ) is a unit of area equal to 10,000
square metres, or one square
hectometre, and commonly used for
measuring land area. A 100 m square is one ha. Its base unit, the
are, was defined by older forms of the
metric system, but neither it nor the hectare is part of the modern metric system. The
Comité International des Poids et Mesures classifies the hectare as a unit that, although it is not part of the
International System of Units, is expected to continue in use indefinitely, having an exact definition in terms of
SI base units.

Das oder der Hektar ist eine
Maßeinheit der
Fläche; sie ist vor allem in der
Land- und Forstwirtschaft verbreitet. Sie wurde 1879 von der
CIPM eingeführt. Ein Hektar entspricht 10.000 Quadratmeter oder auch 100
Ar oder einem Quadrathektometer. Ein Quadrat mit diesem Flächeninhalt (1 ha) hat eine Kantenlänge von 100 Metern (1 Hektometer). Der Name besteht aus der verkürzten (griechischen) Vorsilbe Hekto für 100 und der Einheit
Ar; also: Hekt-Ar. Zwar gehört diese Einheit nicht zum
SI-Einheitensystem, doch sie ist bis auf Weiteres zur Benutzung mit diesem zugelassen.
