The heater shield is a form of
shield characterized by its distinctive shape. Around
1250, the heater shield was emerged as
kite shields became flat-topped and more triangular. Smaller than the kite-shield, it was more manageable and could be used either mounted or on foot. From the 15th century, it evolved into highly specialized
jousting equipment, while with the development of full
plate armour it ceased to be employed on the battlefield.
