Hangul is the native alphabet of the Korean language, as distinguished from the logographic Sino-Korean hanja system. It is the official script of North Korea, South Korea and the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture of China.Hangul is a phonemic alphabet organized into syllabic blocks. Each block consists of at least two of the 24 Hangul letters (jamo), with at least one each of the 14 consonants and 10 vowels. These syllabic blocks can be written horizontally from left to right as well as vertically from top to bottom, columns from right to left. Le hangeul (historiquement hangûl) (ou han’gŭl, romanisation McCune-Reischauer) est un alphabet créé pour transcrire le coréen. Le but de la création de cet alphabet était de réduire le taux d'analphabétisme en Corée. Son utilisation en tant qu’écriture officielle n’a été promulguée qu'en 1894. En Corée du Nord, la même écriture s'appelle chosŏn'gŭl (조선글).

Hangeul (oft auch Hangul geschrieben; ) ist heutzutage das meistverwendete Alphabet in Korea. Im Gegensatz zur chinesischen Schrift handelt es sich hierbei um eine Alphabetschrift. Ihr Aufbau folgt bestimmten Prinzipien und kann als logisch bezeichnet werden. Sie umfasst heute 51 Zeichen – 14 Konsonanten, 10 Vokale sowie 27 aus den Grundzeichen zusammengesetzte Zeichen. In der ursprünglichen Version waren viele andere Zeichen vorgesehen, die hauptsächlich der Transkription chinesischer Wörter oder der Bezeichnung heute im Koreanischen nicht mehr vorhandener Laute – beispielsweise dem F – dienten. Die Jamo genannten Grapheme („Buchstaben“) werden silbenweise zusammengefasst, so dass jede Silbe in einem unsichtbaren Quadrat steht (siehe Bild rechts).

Hangyl (koreańskie 한글) to  alfabet koreański; składa się z 24 znaków, 14 spółgłosek i 10 samogłosek. Jest jednym z niewielu alfabetów, który został stworzony sztucznie a nie wyewoluował z hieroglifów czy ideogramów, jak to się działo w przypadku większości nowoczesnych języków. Każda sylaba zapisywana jest jako blok, na polu kwadratu, składający się ze znaków alfabetu (tzw. jamo). Słowa w tym alfabecie zapisywać można poziomo lub pionowo.

Lo o è l'alfabeto della lingua coreana. Fu ideato dal re Sejong il Grande nel XV secolo e andò a sostituire il sistema di scrittura cinese, basato sugli hanja, usato dalle élites colte del paese fino a quel momento.A differenza del sistema di scrittura cinese, è un alfabeto fonetico, in cui ogni carattere rappresenta una sillaba ed è la composizione grafica dei due o tre suoni elementari che la compongono; a ciascuno dei suoni elementari corrisponde un simbolo, ad esempio (vedi figura)ㅎ (h aspirata) ㅏ (a) ㄴ (n) si combinano in 한 (han)ㄱ (g) ㅡ (u breve, indistinta) ㄹ (r, l) si combinano in 글 (gŭl)
