A hallucination is a perception in the absence of a stimulus that is believed to be genuine, ie. the subject experiences an imaginary stimulus as being real. A pseudohallucination is similar to an hallucination in all respects except that of absolute belief in the authenticity of the stimulus. In an illusory experience, a genuine sensation is attributed to an incorrect cause (eg. misinterpreting a coat hanging on a door to be an intruder). A delusional perception is where a genuine perception (ie. correctly sensed and interpreted) is given some additional (and typically bizarre) significance. Hallucinations may occur in any sensory modality—visual, auditory, olfactory, gustatory, tactile, proprioceptive, equilibrioceptive, nociceptive, thermoceptive.

L'hallucination est définie classiquement comme étant une "perception sans objet", et plus précisement selon Henri Ey comme une "perception sans objet à percevoir". Elle se distingue d'une illusion, qui est une perception anormale d'un stimulus externe. Les hallucinations peuvent toucher tous nos sens - vue, ouïe, odorat, toucher et goût - isolément ou simultanément. On décrit aussi les "hallucinations psychiques" qui ne présentent pas suffisamment de caractéristiques sensorielles pour être confondue avec une perception. Ils sont en général vécus comme des phénomènes psychiques empreints d'un sentiment d'étrangeté: imposition de pensées, télépathie, intrusion dans les pensées du patient...

Unter Halluzination versteht man eine Wahrnehmung eines Sinnesgebietes, ohne dass eine Reizgrundlage vorliegt. Das bedeutet zum Beispiel, dass physikalisch nicht nachweisbare Objekte gesehen, oder Stimmen gehört werden, ohne dass jemand spricht. Halluzinationen können alle Sinnesgebiete betreffen. Bei einer Illusion hingegen wird ein real vorhandener Sachverhalt verändert wahrgenommen: Ein tatsächlich vorhandener feststehender Gegenstand scheint sich zu bewegen oder in irregulären Mustern werden scheinbar Gesichter erkennbar.

Halucynacje (omamy) - zaburzenia spostrzegania definiowane jako fałszywe doświadczenia zmysłowe, patologiczne postrzeganie przedmiotów, które w rzeczywistości nie znajdują się w polu percepcji jednostki (lub w ogóle nie istnieją), któremu towarzyszy silne przekonanie o realności doznań i rzutowanie (projekcja) ich na zewnątrz.

L'allucinazione è una falsa percezione in assenza di uno stimolo esterno reale. È spesso definita in psicopatologia 'percezione senza oggetto'. Il termine deriva dal latino hallucinere o allucinere, che significa 'vagare nella mente' ed ha nella sua radice la particella "LUX" (luce-illuminazione-percezione Di Phenomeni-ParaNormali). Alternativamente si può far risalire al greco ἁλύσκειν, (haluskein), che significa 'scappare', "evitare" riferendosi all'interpretazione diffusa dell'allucinazione come fuga dalla realtà. In psicopatologia le allucinazioni vengono classificate fra i disturbi della percezione e sono distinte dalle allucinosi e dalle illusioni. Le allucinazioni si possono verificare in ognuna delle modalità sensitive, in particolare riconosciamo allucinazioni visive, uditive, gustative, olfattive e tattili e fenomeni allucinatori cenestesici, enterocettivi, protopatici.
