Half-caste
Half-caste (or half-cast) is a term used to describe people of
mixed race or enthicity. Caste comes from the Latin castus, meaning pure, and the derivative Portuguese and Spanish casta, meaning race."Half-caste" was traditionally a ubiquitous term used to refer to people of mixed-race. In the present day it is increasing considered
pejorative for use by those dealing with people, especially in any professional capacity. The term
mulatto (from Spanish "Mulato") has also been used for this particular mixture.
