Haani
Haani is a secondary character who appears in Ian Irvine's novel Geomancer, the first book in The Well of Echoes quartet. She is the daughter and niece of three sisters in a small thatch roofed hut on the a river south of Kalissin. When Tiaan spends the night there after escaping Kalissin, the family treat her well. However, the Nylatl catches up with her and kills Haani's mother and aunts. One of Haani's aunts pleads with Tiaan to take Haani with her insisting that she is her mother now. Tiaan accepts, mainly out of guilt. During the journey south, Haani rejects Tiaan as a mother and runs away, but Tiaan finds and comforts her. She suggests that she could be Haani's sister rather than her mother and the two become closer. The two travel together, eventually reaching Tirthrax where Haani helps Tiaan to find the way inside and to create the machine to open the gate to Aachan. As the Aachim constructs begin to emerge, Tiaan suggests Haani hide. However, when she tries to run to Tiaan, a nervous gunner in a construct accidentally shoots her. She dies from her injuries and Tiaan swears on Haani's body that she will never love again and with Malien's help, she delivers her body to The Well of Echoes.
