gray matter

Gray Matter is a short horror sci-fi story by Stephen King, first published in Cavalier in October 1973. It was re-published in his Night Shift collection in 1978 and again in Arbour House Necropolis in 1982. It is set in the same area as King's novel Dreamcatcher.

Die Nervenfasern bilden dagegen in ihrer Gesamtheit die weiße Substanz.Umgangssprachlich und falsche Assoziationen weckend spricht man häufig von den „grauen Zellen“.Die graue Substanz liegt im Rückenmark zentral und bildet ein schmetterlingsähnliches Gebilde mit einem Vorder- und Hinterhorn. Im Bereich der Brust- und Lendenabschnittes kann man auch noch ein Intermediärhorn unterscheiden, in dem die Wurzelzellen des Sympathikus liegen. Die graue Substanz ist im Rückenmark vollständig von weißer Substanz umgeben.

Substancja szara (łac. substantia grisea), istota szara, skupisko ciał komórek nerwowych (neuronów) w ośrodkowym układzie nerwowym. Między innymi z uwagi na obecność ciałek Nissla (tigroidu), przybiera na przekroju nieutrwalonego preparatu barwę szaro-różową.W ośrodkowym układzie nerwowym istota szara znajduje się na powierzchni - w mózgu i móżdżku, nosi tam nazwę kory (łac. cortex); oraz w głębi, otoczona istotą białą - tworzy jądra nerwowe (łac. nuclei nervosi).

I Gray Matter sono una band statunitense formatasi nel 1983 nella scena di Washington D.C.. Il gruppo nasce stilisticamente all'interno del filone hardcore punk di Washington D.C. insieme a band come i Minor Threat, il cui cantante e chitarrista Ian MacKaye  pubblicherà tutti i lavori della band con la sua etichetta Dischord Records. Come lo stesso MacKaye, il quale nel 1985 fonda gli Embrace, band fondatrice del genere emo (in particolare della prima ondata), anche i Gray Matter si evolvono verso questo genere e verso forme più melodiche indie e alternative rock, diventando una delle prime emo-band. La band, dopo essersi sciolta nel 1986, si riforma nel 1990 per poi chiudere definitivamente la propria attività nel 1993.
