girl band

All-female bands (commonly known as all-women bands, all-girl bands or girl bands) are musical groups in which females sing and play all the instruments. They are distinct from girl groups, in which the females sing but do not play any or all the of the instruments.

The band Girl should not be confused with girl bands. Girl was an English glam rock band. Their lead vocalist was Phil Lewis, who later sang for L.A. Guns, New Torpedos, Torme, Filthy Lucre, The Liberators, and several other bands. Phil Collen, who later joined Def Leppard, and had previously been in the bands Lucy, Tush, and Dumb Blondes, was one of Girl's guitarists, except for a brief time near the end of the group's career. Gerry Laffy was the other guitarist in the band.

ガールズバンドとは、一般に結成時に20歳代前半くらいまでの女性だけで構成されているバンドのことである。ここでは単に女性だけで構成された女性バンドについてもあわせて説明をする。ガールズバンドは、ギャルバンと略称される。アイドルっぽさとポップさを売りにしているバンドが多いが、男性だけのバンドに劣らないロックで魅せることもある。このようなバンドの事を特に「ガールズロックバンド」や「女性ロックバンド」とも呼ぶ。アメリカやヨーロッパでは多くのガールズバンドが存在している。日本ではそれほど多くないが、プリンセス・プリンセスが特に有名である。
