The geologic time scale is a system of chronological measurement that relates stratigraphy to time, and is used by geologists, paleontologists, and other earth scientists to describe the timing and relationships between events that have occurred throughout Earth's history. The table of geologic time spans presented here agrees with the dates and nomenclature set forth by the International Commission on Stratigraphy, and uses the standard color codes of the United States Geological Survey.

L'échelle des temps géologiques est un système de classement chronologique utilisé, notamment en géologie, pour dater les événements survenus durant l'histoire de la Terre. Les premières échelles des temps géologiques trouvent leur source au mais prennent une forme de datation précise avec Arthur Holmes, dans les années 1930. Celui-ci publie une première échelle en 1937 et il est aujourd'hui reconnu comme le père de l'échelle des temps géologiques.

En geologisk tidsskala är en sammanställning av den tid som har förflutit sedan Jorden skapades fram tills idag. Tiden är indelad i namngivna perioder som är definierade av arbetsgrupper inom International Commission on Stratigraphy, en internationell kommission som lyder under International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS). IUGS är partner med den del inom UNESCO som håller på med geologiska frågor.
