General aviation (GA) is one of the two categories of civil aviation. It refers to all flights other than military and scheduled airline and regular cargo flights, both private and commercial. General aviation flights range from gliders and powered parachutes to large, non-scheduled cargo jet flights. The majority of the world's air traffic falls into this category, and most of the world's airports serve general aviation exclusively.

Allgemeine Luftfahrt oder General Aviation (GA) ist die Bezeichnung für die zivile, private Luftfahrt, mit Ausnahme der international operierenden Luftfahrtunternehmen. Sie umfasst private und gewerbliche Flugreisen, die sowohl nach den Regeln für Sichtflüge (VFR) als auch für Instrumentenflüge (IFR) durchgeführt werden können, zum Beispiel von Privatflugzeugen oder von Rettungshubschraubern. Gemeint ist also jeglicher ziviler Luftverkehr mit Ausnahme des Linien- und Charterverkehrs durch die Fluggesellschaften (engl. airlines).

L'aviation générale est un terme générique qui regroupe toutes les activités aériennes civiles autres que le transport commercial : aviation sportive (voltige, vol à voile) ou de loisir (tourisme), travail aérien (épandage agricole, lutte contre l'incendie, surveillance aérienne par les douanes ou la police), aviation d'affaire etc.

Awionetka - potoczne określenie lekkiego samolotu turystycznego o niskiej mocy silnika, najczęściej jednosilnikowego, 2-4 miejscowego, obecnie nieco przestarzałe. Wykorzystywany jest głównie do celów rekreacyjnych, czasem sportowych lub do transportu osób na krótkie odległości. Nazwa jest spolszczeniem francuskiego słowa avionnette (samolocik, od avion - samolot). Często nieprawidłowo używa się nazwy "awionetka" w odniesieniu do samolotów ultralekkich.

Aviação geral inclui quaisquer tipos de aviação, que não sejam vôos regulares (de linhas aéreas) ou aeronaves militares. Isto inclui desde pequenos aviões de propriedade particular até modernos jatos de negócio, helicópteros, balonismo, vôos de treinamento (para pilotos iniciantes) e outras atividades aéreas.
