gastric antral vascular ectasia

Gastric antral vascular ectasia (GAVE, also called watermelon stomach) is an uncommon cause of chronic gastrointestinal bleeding or iron deficiency anemia. The condition is associated with dilated small blood vessels in the antrum, or the last part of the stomach. It is also called watermelon stomach because streaky long red areas that are present in the stomach may resemble the markings on watermelon.

Żołądek arbuzowaty (GAVE, antralne poszerzenia naczyniowe, ang. watermelon stomach, gastric antral vascular ectasia) – zmiany naczyniowe w śluzówce  żołądka będące rzadką przyczyną ostrych i przewlekłych krwawień z przewodu pokarmowego i niedokrwistości z niedoboru żelaza. Nazwa zmian pochodzi od czerwonych pasm widocznych w endoskopii, mogących przypominać skórę arbuza; obecnie preferowaną nazwą jest GAVE.
