Gallina
The Gallina (also referred to as the Largo phase or Largo-Gallina) were a
Native American culture who lived on several hundred square miles of what is now the northwestern corner of the U.S. state of
New Mexico. The culture appears to have existed from around 1100 to 1275. Little is known about the culture but many of the approximately 100 bodies studied show signs of violent deaths, with many found unburied inside their burned homes. About 90% of known Gallina structures were burned. The area was not reoccuppied after the Gallina until the 19th century. Gallina culture was distinct from surrounding Puebloan cultures. Distinctive traits include a utilitarian style of pottery with conical bottoms and architecture with thick walls.
