Fungemia is the presence of fungi or yeasts in the blood. It is most commonly caused by Candida species (also known as Candidemia, Candedemia, and Invasive Candidiasis), but can be caused by other fungi as well, including Saccharomyces, Aspergillus and Cryptococcus. It is most commonly seen in immunosuppressed or immunocompromised patients with severe neutropenia, oncology patients, or in patients with intravenous catheters. Recently, it has been suggested the otherwise immunocompetent patients taking infliximab may be at a higher risk for fungemia.

Fungemia es la presencia de hongos en la sangre. Es más comúnmente visto en pacientes con inmunosupresión o inmunodeficiencia con fuerte agranulocitosis, pacientes oncología oncológicos, o en pacientes con catéteres intravenosos. Recientemente, se ha mostrado que pacientes inmunocompetes que toman infliximab (un tipo de droga) pueden estar en mayor riegos de obtener fungemia. El diagnostico es complicado, ya que un hemocultivo corriente tiene poca sensibilidad. El tratamiento involucra es uso de antimicóticos, ejemplos son fluconazol o Anfotericina B.
