foreskin

The foreskin or prepuce (a technically broader term that also includes the clitoral hood, the homologous structure in women) is a retractable double-layered fold of skin and mucous membrane that covers the glans penis and protects the urinary meatus when the penis is not erect. Almost all mammals have foreskins, although in these non-human cases the foreskin is usually a sheath into which the whole penis is retracted. Only monotremes (the platypus and the echidna) lack foreskins.

Auch die Klitoris, das bei der Frau dem Penis entsprechende Organ, ist mit einer Vorhaut versehen.

Pełni funkcje ochronne względem wędzidełka i żołędzi, zapewniając odpowiednią wilgotność i osłaniając od uszkodzeń. Może być ściągnięty za żołądź, dlatego można go zsuwać i wsuwać na czubek penisa. U małych dzieci napletek jest sklejony z żołędzią (konglutynacja). Zjawisko to powinno ustąpić jednakże w ciągu pierwszych lat życia. Trudności w zsuwaniu napletka po okresie dojrzewania mogą świadczyć o chorobie (stulejka) i koniecznej wizycie u lekarza.
