Fog
Fog is a collection of water droplets or ice crystals suspended in the air at or near the Earth's surface. While fog is a type of a cloud, the term "fog" is typically distinguished from the more generic term "cloud" in that fog is low-lying, and the moisture in the fog is often generated locally (such as from a nearby body of water, like a lake or the ocean, or from nearby moist ground or marshes).

Nebel
Unter Nebel (althochdeutsch nebul, verwandt mit lateinisch nebula, und griechisch νέφηλη (nephele) oder νέφος = „Wolke“) versteht man in der Meteorologie einen Teil der Atmosphäre, in dem Wassertröpfchen fein verteilt sind, und der in Kontakt mit dem Boden steht, wobei die Wassertröpfchen durch Kondensation des Wassers der feuchten und gesättigten Luft entstanden sind. Fachlich gesehen ist Nebel ein Aerosol, in der meteorologischen Systematik wird er jedoch zu den Hydrometeoren gezählt.

Brouillard
Le brouillard est le phénomène météorologique constituté d’un amas de fines gouttelettes ou de fins cristaux de glace, accompagné de fines particules hygroscopiques saturées d'eau, souvent de taille microscopique, réduisant la visibilité en surface. Sa composition est donc identique à celle d'un nuage dont la base toucherait le sol. Par convention, les météorologistes parlent de brume lorsque la visibilité horizontale est plus de un kilomètre et de brouillard si la visibilité est inférieure à un kilomètre. Les marins utilisent souvent le terme de brume quelle que soit la visibilité horizontale et le nomment également fumée de mer quand il s'agit de brouillard d'évaporation.

Dimma
Dimma innebär att luften är så bemängd med små vattendroppar att sikten är mindre än 1 km. Är sikten mellan 1 km och 1 mil talar man istället om dis. Om dimman består av iskristaller kallas den för isdimma. Mellan dimma och moln finns ingen principiell skillnad, endast att moln inte når marken.

Mgla
Mgła - krople wody (lub kryształy lodu) zawieszone w powietrzu, których dolna podstawa styka się z powierzchnią ziemi. Mgła powoduje ograniczenie widoczności.
Potocznie o mgle mówimy, gdy widoczność przy gruncie jest znacznie ograniczona, w przeciwnym razie mamy do czynienia z zamgleniem. We mgle koncentracja kropel (wodność) jest większa niż w zamgleniu. Gdy kropelki mgły rosną, mgła może przekształcić się w mżawkę. Mgły różnią się od chmur (stratus) tym, że ich dolna podstawa styka się z powierzchnią ziemi podczas gdy podstawa chmur jest ponad powierzchnią ziemi.
