Floruit (often abbreviated fl. or flor. and sometimes italicized to show it is Latin) refers to a period of time during which a person, school, movement or even species was active or flourishing. It is the third person, singular, perfect tense form of the Latin verb florere — 'to flourish'. It is widely used in genealogy and historical writing, when the birth or death dates are unknown, but we do have some other evidence indicating when a person was alive. For example, if there are wills attested by John Jones in 1204, 1207 and 1229, and a record of his marriage in 1197, it should be written as "John Jones (fl. 1197–1229)".

Floruit (Latijn voor "bloeide", spreek uit 'floroeït) is een biografische term uit de Oudheid.In die tijd werd er niet vaak gewerkt met geboorte- en sterfdata: vaak waren die niet bekend, maar ze werden ook niet zo belangrijk gevonden. In plaats daarvan werd het "bloei-jaar" gehanteerd, dat aangaf wanneer iemand volwassen was en begonnen met zijn/haar werk.In de (voorchristelijke) Griekse bronnen (de term is daar γεγονως ['gegonoos]) werd dit jaartal geïdentificeerd door de bijbehorende Olympiade (zo had de Griekse dichteres Sappho volgens de tiende-eeuwse encyclopedie Suda haar floruit/γεγονυια in de 42e Olympiade, ofte wel tussen  612 en 608 voor Christus); in de Romeinse bronnen door de in dat jaar regerende consuls.
