FLOPS
In computing, FLOPS (or flops or flop/s, for floating-point operations per second) is a measure of a computer's performance, especially in fields of scientific calculations that make heavy use of floating-point calculations, similar to the older, simpler, instructions per second. Since the final S stands for "second", conservative speakers consider "FLOPS" as both the singular and plural of the term, although the singular "FLOP" is frequently encountered. Alternatively, the singular FLOP (or flop) is used as an abbreviation for "FLoating-point OPeration", and a flop count is a count of these operations (e.g., required by a given algorithm or computer program). In this context, "flops" is simply the plural rather than a rate.

Floating Point Operations Per Second (englisch für Gleitkommaoperationen pro Sekunde, Abk.: FLOPS) ist eine Maßeinheit für die Geschwindigkeit von Computersystemen oder Prozessoren und bezeichnet die Anzahl der Gleitkommazahl-Operationen (Additionen oder Multiplikationen), die von ihnen pro Sekunde ausgeführt werden können.

FLOPS
FLOPS (ang. FLoating point Operations Per Second) - liczba operacji zmiennoprzecinkowych na sekundę, jednostka wydajności komputerów, a dokładniej wydajności układów realizujących obliczenia zmiennoprzecinkowe.
Większość współczesnych mikroprocesorów zawiera specjalizowaną jednostkę FPU (floating-point unit), która jest odpowiedzialna za wykonywanie obliczeń zmiennoprzecinkowych. Dlatego też parametr FLOPS pokazuje głównie wydajność jednostki FPU.
Jednym z częściej wykorzystywanych benchmarków mierzących wydajność jest LINPACK napisany w języku Fortran. Linpack jest wykorzystywany m.in. w projekcie TOP500, który zajmuje się testowaniem najbardziej wydajnych superkomputerów.
