Le flipper, ou plus rarement billard électrique en français ou machine à boule en québécois, est un jeu d'arcade à monnayeur, dont le principe est de marquer des points en dirigeant une ou plusieurs billes métalliques sur un plateau de jeu séparé du joueur par une vitre. Le but principal est de réaliser le score le plus élevé. Le but secondaire est de jouer le plus longtemps possible (en obtenant des billes supplémentaires, ou extra ball) et de gagner des parties gratuites (ou replay).

Flipper nazywany też pinball to rodzaj automatu do gry, w którym zabawa polega na tym, aby przy pomocy ruchomych płetw (łapek) (z ang. flipper) odbijać poruszającą się po lekko nachylonej do grającego planszy metalową kulkę i nie dopuścić do jej wpadnięcia w otwór znajdujący się na dole. Na planszy porozmieszczane są różne elementy których trafienie zwiększa liczbę punktów.

Il Flipper, conosciuto in inglese come Pinball è un gioco di abilità a moneta, di origini americane, molto diffuso con tale nome in Italia, Francia ed altri paesi europei a partire dagli anni cinquanta, soprattutto in bar e locali pubblici.Il termine flipper deriva dalle piccole pinne (flippers) comandate da pulsanti esterni e con le quali il giocatore può colpire una biglia d'acciaio mirando a bersagli posti su un piano inclinato coperto da un vetro trasparente. Ogni singolo bersaglio o combinazione di bersagli colpiti apporta un punteggio o agevolazioni (bonus) al gioco.
