Flagellate
Flagellates are organisms with one or more whip-like organelles called flagella. Some cells in animals may be flagellate, for instance the spermatozoa of most phyla. Flowering plants do not produce flagellate cells, but ferns, mosses, green algae, some gymnosperms and other closely related plants do. Likewise, most fungi do not produce cells with flagellae, but the primitive fungal chytrids do. Many protists take the form of single-celled flagellates.

Les flagellés (du latin flagellum = fouet) sont des organismes eucaryotes unicellulaires, qui sont dotés de flagelles dont ils se servent pour leur propulsion.

Flagellater
Flagellater (gisseldjur) är encelliga protister med flageller – kallas också gissel – det vill säga med piskliknande organeller ofta använda för förflyttning. Förut grupperades de i Mastigophora, men de olika linjerna verkar inte vara närmare besläktade.

Wiciowce
Wiciowce (łac. Mastigota, Flagellata, Mastigophora) - pierwotniaki, zazwyczaj jednojądrowe haplonty. Poruszają się przy pomocy wici, rozmnażają się przez podział podłużny (bezpłciowo). Heterotrofy, niektóre z nich posiadają zdolności autotroficzne (więc są miksotrofami).
Taksonomia tej grupy jest niespójna. W zasadzie wyróżniana jest na podstawie posiadania wici, podczas gdy mogą ja posiadać bardzo różne taksony. Ze względu na bycie "stanem pośrednim", są przedmiotem badań zarówno tradycyjnej zoologii, jak i tradycyjnej botaniki. Obydwa te podejścia prowadziły do nieco odmiennej taksonomii tych samych organizmów lub grup organizmów. W dawnych podziałach systematycznych dzielono je na wiciowce zwierzęce (np. wiciowce kołnierzykowe, kinetoplastydy) i roślinne (np. eugleniny, bruzdnice).
