Film score
A film score (also sometimes called background music or incidental music) is original music written specifically to accompany a film. The score forms part of the film's soundtrack, which also usually includes dialogue and sound effects, and comprises a number of orchestral, instrumental or choral pieces called cues which are timed to begin and end at specific points during the film in order to enhance the dramatic narrative and the emotional impact of the scene in question. Scores are written by one or more composers, under the guidance of the film's director and/or producer, and are then usually performed by an ensemble of musicians - most often comprising an orchestra or band, instrumental soloists, and choir or vocalists - and recorded by a sound engineer.

Filmmusik
Unter Filmmusik (engl. [film] score) versteht man jene Musik, die für einen konkreten Film komponiert oder aus bereits vorhandener klassischer oder populärer Musik zusammengesetzt und mit diesem zusammen aufgeführt wird. Gelegentlich ist auch zu einem Film Musik improvisiert und technisch fixiert worden. In jedem Falle sollte Filmmusik die Stimmungs- und Gefühlsebene in einem Film und dessen Handlungsführung unterstützen.

Media Composer
Media Composer bezeichnet ein professionelles, soft- und hardwarebasierendes NLE-System der Firma Avid, das für die Fernsehnormen PAL und NTSC ausgelegt ist. Die Schwester-Applikation für die Spielfilm-Nachbearbeitung heißt Film Composer, die nativ mit 24 fps-Material umgehen kann. Beide Lösungen sind weltweiter Industriestandard.

Filmmusik
Filmmusik är en bakgrundsmusik eller musik som beskriver och förhöjer filmens budskap eller karaktärernas känslotillstånd och förekommer i nästan varje film. Av vissa ses den även som en del av ljudeffekterna. Ett fåtal filmer görs i princip helt utan musik. En av de mest kända i den gruppen är Kinasyndromet.

Muzyka filmowa
Muzyka filmowa – jeden z gatunków muzyki. Komponowana specjalnie na potrzeby dzieła filmowego, dla jego ilustracji.
Muzyka filmowa może być ilustracją albo też kontrapunktem obrazu – czyli warstwą dopełniającą, charakteryzującą postaci, nastrój, przeżycia psychiczne bohaterów. Po raz pierwszy o muzyce filmowej można było mówić w erze kina niemego, ale od tamtych czasów muzyka filmowa przeszła znaczną ewolucję.
W czasach filmu niemego ilustracja muzyczna obrazu była wykonywana na żywo, w czasie seansu. Zazwyczaj były to utwory odgrywane na pianinie przez tapera, a w bogatszych kinach przez kameralne zespoły, a nawet duże orkiestry, jak np. The London Symphony Orchestra. Muzykę do takich orkiestrowych wykonań pisali na zamówienie realizatorów kompozytorzy, nierzadko uznani, jak Sergiusz Prokofiew i Dymitr Szostakowicz. Taperzy natomiast najczęściej wykorzystywano utwory już istniejące, dobierane do dramaturgii filmu, w czym pomagały im wydawnictwa nutowe będące katalogami motywów uważanych za specjalnie nadające się do scen pogoni, kłamstwa, wyznać miłosnych, tęsknoty itd. Sytuacji tej położył kres film dźwiękowy.
