In particle physics, fermions are particles with half-integer spin, such as protons and electrons. They are named after Enrico Fermi. In the Standard Model there are two types of elementary fermions: quarks and leptons. The 24 fundamental fermionic flavours are:12 quarks - 6 particles (u · d · s · c · b · t) with 6 corresponding antiparticles;12 leptons - 6 particles (e ·  μ · τ  ·   ν_e · ν_μ · ν_τ) with 6 corresponding antiparticles, of which 3 are neutrinos and 3 are antineutrinos.

Le modèle standard classe les particules élémentaires en deux grandes familles : les fermions et les bosons. Formellement, les fermions obéissent à la statistique de Fermi-Dirac et les bosons obéissent à celle de Bose-Einstein. Fermionen (benannt nach Enrico Fermi) sind Teilchen im physikalischen Sinn, die einen halbzahligen Spin besitzen (also , etc.), siehe Spin-Statistik-Theorem. Unter den Elementarteilchen gehören zu den Fermionen die Leptonen (z. B. das  Elektron und das Neutrino) und die Quarks. Unter den zusammengesetzten Teilchen unter anderem alle Teilchen, die aus einer ungeraden Anzahl von Quarks aufgebaut sind, wie zum Beispiel alle Baryonen, zu denen auch das Proton und das Neutron gehören. Die Besetzungs-Statistik für Fermionen ist die Fermi-Dirac-Statistik. Fermionen grenzen sich ab von den Bosonen, die einen ganzzahligen Spin besitzen. Elementarteilchen sind immer entweder Boson oder Fermion.

Nella fisica delle particelle, i fermioni sono particelle che presentano uno spin multiplo di 1/2; esse prendono il nome dallo scienziato italiano Enrico Fermi.
