feral child

A feral child (feral, - wild or undomesticated) is a human child who has lived isolated from human contact from a very young age, and has no (or little) experience of human care, loving or social behavior, and, crucially, of human language. Feral children were confined by humans (often parents), brought up by animals, or lived in the wild in isolation. Just over a hundred incidences have been reported in English. though more incidences may have been unreported. These cases are considered interesting from a psychological and a sociological perspective. When completely brought up by animals the feral child exhibits behaviors (within physical limits) almost entirely like those of the particular care-animal, including its variety of instincts, fear of or indifference to humans, etc.

Les enfants sauvages sont des enfants qui, perdus ou abandonnés, ont vécu à leur plus jeune âge, reclus de la société, à l'écart de tout contact humain. Als Wolfskinder oder wilde Kinder bezeichnet man Kinder, oft Findelkinder, die in jungen Jahren eine Zeit lang isoliert von Menschen aufwuchsen und sich deshalb in ihrem erlernten Verhalten von normal sozialisierten Kindern unterscheiden. Dabei sind Wolfskinder in seltenen Fällen von Tieren adoptiert worden und lebten bei ihnen.

Wolfskinderen of wilde kinderen zijn kinderen die vanaf jonge leeftijd zonder menselijk contact zijn opgegroeid en dientengevolge nauwelijks of geen kennis hebben van menselijk gedrag en taal. Het gebeurt slechts zeer zelden dat wilde kinderen worden ontdekt. In de afgelopen eeuwen zijn zo'n honderd gevallen gedocumenteerd.

Un niño salvaje o niño feral es una persona que ha vivido apartada de la sociedad durante un largo período de su infancia. Esta categoría incluye desde personas que no han tenido el más mínimo contacto humano durante años hasta niños que han sido confinados en sitios donde solamente se les alimentaba. Se han conocido pocos casos pero han sido muy estudiados por su interés sociológico, médico y lingüístico.
