In chemistry, the phenyl group or phenyl ring (often abbreviated as -Ph) is the functional group with the formula-C6H5 where the six carbon atoms are arranged in a cyclic ring structure. It is in the Aryl group. It is highly stable, and is also a member of the aromatic family of compounds. This hydrophobic and aromatic hydrocarbon unit can be found in many organic compounds. It can be thought of as being derived from benzene (C6H6). In fact, in chemical literature benzene itself is sometimes denoted as Ph. One of the simplest phenyl containing compounds is phenol, C6H5OH. The resonance stability of phenol makes it a stronger acid than that of another alcohol (pKa = 10 vs. 16-18).

Grupa fenylowa (C6H5-) to arylowa organiczna grupa funkcyjna, występująca w wielu związkach aromatycznych. Składa się ona z pierścienia 6 atomów węgla, połączonych 3 pojedynczymi i 3 zdelokalizowanymi podwójnymi wiązaniami.Grupę fenylową, jeśli nie występuje w układach sprzężonych, oznacza się  symbolicznie skrótem "Ph-" (od Phenyl). Najprostszym możliwym związkiem, który zawiera tę grupę, jest benzen (C6H6), który symbolicznie można zapisać jako Ph-H. Inne związki zawierające fenyl to Ph-OH - fenol, Ph-CH3 - toluen, Ph-NH2 - anilina, Ph-(CH2)2-NH2 - fenyloetyloamina.

Een fenylgroep (in het engels en frans als Phenyl gespeld) is een benzeenmolecuul waarvan één waterstofatoom is verwijderd en dat als zijgroep dient voor een organische chemische verbinding.De notatie van de fenyl-groep kan op verschillende manieren gebeuren:– Ph– C6H5– F (de griekse letter Phi)als benzeenring met één waterstof vervangen door een binding.De naam is afgeleid van fenol.

Med fenylgrupp förstås den ringformade kemiska gruppen -C6H5. Förkortas ofta Ph i strukturformler, från engelskans phenyl. Fenylgruppen är hydrofob, och på grund av dess aromaticitet tämligen stabil.
