Fentanyl (also known as fentanil, brand names Sublimaze, Actiq, Durogesic, Duragesic, Fentora, Matrifen, Haldid, Onsolis, Instanyl, Abstral, Lazanda and others) is a potent, synthetic narcotic analgesic with a rapid onset and short duration of action. It is a strong agonist at the µ-opioid receptors. Historically it has been used to treat breakthrough pain and is commonly used in pre-procedures as a pain reliever as well as an anesthetic in combination with a benzodiazepine.

Fentanyl ist ein synthetisches Opioid, das als potentes Schmerzmittel in der Anästhesie (bei Narkosen) sowie als transdermales therapeutisches System zur Therapie von chronischen Schmerzzuständen, die nur mit Opiatanalgetika ausreichend behandelt werden können, eingesetzt wird. Fentanyl wirkt als Agonist am µ-Opioid-Rezeptor. Fentanyl fällt in Deutschland und in der Schweiz unter das Betäubungsmittelgesetz und in Österreich unter das Suchtmittelgesetz.

Le fentanyl est un analgésique opioïde, synthétisé pour la première fois en Belgique vers la fin des années 1950. Son potentiel analgésique vaut environ 80 fois celui de la morphine. Il a été introduit dans la pratique médicale dans les années 1960 sous forme d'anesthésique intraveineux. Le fentanyl a une LD₅₀ de 3,1 milligrammes par kilogramme chez les rats. La LD₅₀ chez les humains est inconnue. Le fentanyl est dans la plupart des pays une substance réglementée assimilée aux stupéfiants.

Fentanyl (varunamn Leptanal, Durogesic, Matrifen, Actiq, Abstral samt Fentanyl+företagets namn) är en syntetisk opioid, inom sjukvården använd för smärtlindring.

Fentanyl (ATC: N 01 AH 01, N 02 AB 03) – syntetyczny lek przeciwbólowy, pod względem chemicznym należący do pochodnych fenylpiperydyny. Podobnie jak np. morfina jest agonistą receptorów opioidowych i w ten sposób wywiera swoje działanie.
