Pharaoh was the ancient Egyptian name for the office of kingship. The term began as a reference to the king's palace, but the meaning loosened over the course of Egyptian history until in the late period it was interchangeable with the Egyptian word for king. Contrary to many languages, the same word was used for any ruler of Egypt, female or male. Such rulers were believed to be the incarnation of Horus.

Le terme pharaon désigne a posteriori les souverains d'Égypte durant l'antiquité égyptienne. Le pharaon était à la fois l'administrateur principal, le chef des armées, le premier magistrat et le prêtre suprême de l'Égypte antique. Il se dit fils d'Horus et favori d'Amon-Rê. Le mot, se basant sur une expression égyptienne, est un emprunt biblique et n'a jamais servi de titre pour désigner les rois d'Égypte à leur époque et ne se rencontre d'ailleurs pas dans le protocole des souverains égyptiens.

Antonio Faraò (* 1965 in Rom) ist ein italienischer Jazz-Pianist.Faraò studierte klassisches Klavier bei Adriano Della Giustina und schloss 1983 seine Ausbildung am Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Mailand ab. Er trat bereits als Jugendlicher bei zahlreichen Festivals in Italien, Frankreich und Griechenland auf, wurde zu Rundfunk- und Fernsehauftritten eingeladen und erhielt mehrere italienische Preise, darunter den Neue-Talente-Preis beim XI. Musical Review 1987 und die Four Roses als Pianist des Jahres 1991. 1998 gewann er den internationalen Concours Martial Solal.

Faraon – jedno z określeń władcy starożytnego Egiptu, używane przez Greków (będące zniekształconą wersją greckiego peer-aa – 'wielki dom'). Termin ten pojawił się w XVI wieku p.n.e., gdy Egipt wkroczył w okres silnej ekspansji terytorialnej pod rządami XVIII dynastii. Po zjednoczeniu kraju przez Narmera egipski władca nosił tytuł nesut-biti – Ten-który-należy-do-pszczoły-i-trzciny, bowiem w tym okresie godłem Górnego Egiptu była pszczoła, a Dolnego – trzcina. Z biegiem czasu zaczęto używać tytułu Król Górnego i Dolnego Egiptu oraz Król Południa i Król Północy.

Faraon - powieść napisana przez Bolesława Prusa. Rozpoczęta w 1894 roku, ukończona została 2 maja 1895 roku o godzinie 15. Drukowana była odcinkowo w "Tygodniku Ilustrowanym" od roku 1895 do 1896. Jest to powieść historyczna, w której głównym wątkiem jest walka o władzę faraona Ramzesa XIII (właściwie ostatnim z Ramessydów był Ramzes XI) z kapłanami. Wydarzenia toczą się w XI w. p.n.e. w Egipcie za panowanie XX dynastii faraonów. Jedyną postacią historyczną w utworze jest Herhor, właściwie Si-Amon HeriHor.

Farao is de titel die wordt gebruikt om koningen (met goddelijke status) van Opper- en Neder-Egypte aan te duiden. De term is afgeleid van de woorden per aa, hetgeen Groot Huis ofwel paleis betekent.De Egyptenaren noemden hun koning of koningin meestal n.sut (nesoet vert. koning). In de late tijd werd het woord paleis (per 'aa) soms overdrachtelijk gebruikt, zoals men ook nu bv. het Witte Huis zegt als men de Amerikaanse president (en zijn staf) bedoelt. Het werd in het algemeen niet door Egyptenaren zelf gebruikt. Het gebruik van het woord in de Bijbel, en met name in het Boek Exodus, wordt door veel moderne geschiedkundigen overgenomen. Ook de Koran verwijst veelvuldig naar 'de farao' uit de Bijbel.
