fantasy world

A fantasy world is a type of imaginary world, part of a fictional universe used in fantasy novels and games. Typical worlds involve magic or magical abilities and a medieval theme. Some worlds may be a parallel world tenuously connected to Earth via magical portals or items; a fictional Earth set in the remote past or future; or an entirely independent world set in another universe.

Eine Fantasiewelt ist eine gedachte Welt, deren physikalische Gesetze nicht zwingend denen der realen Welt entsprechen und in der magische Kräfte wirken können. Sie werden in der Fantasy-Literatur entworfen und in Fantasy-Spielfilmen genutzt; auch Rollenspiele finden oft in einer Fantasiewelt statt, siehe dazu Fantasy-Spielwelt. Da die Grenzen zwischen den Genres Fantasy und Science-Fiction fließend sind, lassen sich auch die darin entworfenen Welten schwer abgrenzen; manche SF-Welten, auf fernen Planeten gelegen, lassen sich auch als Fantasiewelt auffassen.
