Facón
A facón is a fighting and utility knife widely used in Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay as the principal tool and weapon of the gaucho of the South American pampas. Often fitted with an elaborately decorated metal hilt and sheath, the facón has a large, heavy blade measuring from 25 cm (10 in.) to 51 cm (20 in.) in length.

Machete
Un machete es un cuchillo grande pero más corto que una espada. Comúnmente mide menos de 60 cm y tiene un sólo filo. Se utiliza para segar la hierba, cortar la caña de azúcar, podar plantas y abrirse paso en la selva.
Generalmente, el filo es muy agudo en el tercio de cuchilla más cercano a la punta. La punta del machete sobresale ligeramente por arriba del resto de la cuchilla. El frente del machete es curvo.
