An extended play (or EP) is a musical recording that contains more music than a single, but is too short to qualify as a full studio album or LP. The term EP originally referred to specific types of vinyl records other than 78 rpm standard play (SP) records and LP records, but it is now applied to mid-length Compact Discs and music downloads as well. Ricardo Baca of The Denver Post said, "EPs—originally extended-play 'single' releases that are shorter than traditional albums—have long been popular with punk and indie bands." In the United Kingdom, the Official Chart Company defines a boundary between EP and album classification at 25 minutes of length or four tracks (not counting alternative versions of featured songs, if present).

Eine EP (für Extended Play bzw. auch Extended Player, wobei die Kurzform EP gebräuchlich ist) ist eine Sonderform der Single. Die EP steht zwischen der Single (Short-Play) und dem Album (Long-Play). Meist sind es Schallplatten oder CDs, die zu viele Stücke enthalten, um als Single zu gelten, aber auch kein vollständiges Album bilden. Deshalb werden sie auch oft als „Mini-Album“ bezeichnet.

Un maxi ou quarante-cinq tours grande plage ou grande-plage (en anglais extended play ou EP), est un disque vinyle ou un disque compact qui est trop long pour être qualifié de simple single mais trop court pour être qualifié d'album.

EP, extended play (engelska, ’utökad spelning’), är en term som används i musiksammanhang om musikalbum som innehåller färre låtar än ett fullängdsalbum men fler än en singelskiva, vanligen 3–5 låtar på totalt 10–20 minuters speltid. Ordet EP syftade ursprungligen på 7 tums vinylskivor som spelades i 45 varv/minut och som hade en speltid som var ungefär dubbelt så lång som hos en stenkaka. Termen har kommit att användas i överförd bemärkelse även om cd-skivor och i andra musikdistributionssammanhang.

Symbolem EP oznacza się płyty muzyczne (kompaktowe albo winylowe), które są zbyt długie by nazwać je singlem (do trzech utworów, poniżej 10 minut), ale zbyt krótkie by zakwalifikować je jako pełnoprawny album długogrający - LP (co najmniej osiem piosenek, powyżej 25 minut). Czasami stosuje się termin MCD oznaczający minialbum wydany na płycie kompaktowej.
