evidence-based medicine

Evidence-based medicine (EBM) or scientific medicine is an attempt to apply more uniformly the standards of evidence gained from the scientific method to certain aspects of medical practice. Specifically, EBM seeks to assess the quality of evidence relevant to the risks and benefits of treatments (including lack of treatment). According to the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine, "Evidence-based medicine is the conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients."

La médecine fondée sur les faits se définit comme « l'utilisation rigoureuse et judicieuse des meilleures données disponibles lors de prise de décisions concernant les soins à prodiguer à des patients individuels »,. On utilise plus couramment le terme anglais Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM), et parfois les termes médecine fondée sur des preuves ou médecine factuelle. Ces preuves proviennent d'études cliniques systématiques, telles que des essais contrôlés randomisés en double aveugle, des méta-analyses, éventuellement des études transversales ou de suivi bien construites.

Evidenzbasierte Medizin (EbM, von englisch „Beweis“, „Nachweis“, „Hinweis“; eine treffendere Übersetzung wäre „beweisgestützte Heilkunde“ – siehe auch unter Evidenz) ist jede Form von medizinischer Behandlung, bei der patientenorientierte Entscheidungen ausdrücklich auf Basis von bewiesener Wirksamkeit getroffen werden. Die Beweisfindung erfolgt dabei durch statistische Verfahren. Sie steht damit im Gegensatz zu Behandlungsformen, bei denen kein statistischer Wirksamkeitsnachweis vorliegt.
