Eutheria is a taxon containing the placental mammals, such as humans. The sister group of Eutheria is Metatheria, which includes marsupials and their extinct relatives.The name Eutheria comes from the Greek words eu- "well-developed" and ther "beast". When Eutheria was introduced by Thomas Henry Huxley in 1880, he meant for it to be more broad in definition than its precursor Placentalia. Some use Eutheria as a total group which includes the crown group Placentalia and extinct mammals which are closer to Placentalia than to Marsupialia.

Die Höheren Säuger bilden die artenreichste – zu diesem Taxon zählen rund 94 % der  rezenten Spezies – aber auch hinsichtlich des Körperbaues und der Lebensräume vielfältigste Gruppe der Säugetiere (1135 von 1229 Gattungen).

Gli Euteri o Euplacentati (Eutheria, Huxley 1880) sono una delle due infraclassi in cui è suddivisa la sottoclasse dei   mammiferi placentati (l'altra infraclasse è rappresentata dai Metatheria).Sono dotati di placenta più efficiente, a differenza dei Metatheria (o Marsupiali), che invece sono dotati di placenta vitellina e quindi spesso terminano le prime fasi dello sviluppo nel marsupio e dei Prototeri che sono ovipari.
