The French Navy ship l'Entreprise was a 24-gun frigate captured in May 1705 by the British vessel HMS Tryton. It is the first confirmed vessel to have been christened with the name Enterprise, but its history prior to capture is unknown. It is thought likely that she served in the Mediterranean Sea.After its capture by the British, it was re-christened HMS Enterprise and served in the British Royal Navy as a sixth-rate, or jackass frigate, until being wrecked October 12, 1707 near Thornton, England.
