Une émotion est créatrice d'un changement d'état dans le monde du vivant - émouvoir = mettre en mouvement. Ce changement est vécu physiquement (manifestation de la joie, de la peur, du dégoût, de la colère...). Les émotions prennent leur source dans la région du cerveau appelée amygdale, laquelle joue un rôle clé dans la régulation de nos émotions et la mémoire émotionnelle. Le déclenchement émotionnel est quant à lui lié à un changement dans la manière de vivre une relation ou d'être en relation.

Emocja, (łac. emotion) - silne odczucie (świadome lub nieświadome) o charakterze pobudzenia pozytywnego (pod wpływem szczęścia, zachwytu, spełnienia) lub negatywnego (pod wpływem gniewu, odrazy, strachu).W szerszym znaczeniu emocje (procesy emocjonalne) to procesy psychiczne, które poznaniu i czynnościom podmiotu nadają jakość oraz określają znaczenie, jakie mają dla niego będące źródłem emocji przedmioty, zjawiska, inni ludzie, a także własna osoba, czyli wartościują stymulację.

Een emotie wordt vaak omgeschreven als een innerlijke beleving of gevoel van bijvoorbeeld vreugde, angst, boosheid, verdriet dat door een bepaalde situatie wordt opgeroepen of spontaan kan optreden. In een meer algemene of biologische zin kan men een emotie echter ook definiëren als een reactie van onze hersenen op een positieve of negatieve gebeurtenis. Dit komt zowel bij mensen als dieren tot uiting in een bepaald patroon van gedrag (bijvoorbeeld vluchten of toenadering) en fysiologische reacties. Het gevoel kan dan gezien worden als een speciale uiting of vorm van emoties die typisch is voor mensen, namelijk de bewuste beleving of reflectie van een emotie .
