The embryophytes are the most familiar group of plants. They include trees, flowers, ferns, mosses, and various other green land plants. All are complex multicellular eukaryotes with specialized reproductive organs. With very few exceptions, embryophytes obtain their energy through photosynthesis (that is, by absorbing light); and they synthesize their food from carbon dioxide. Embryophyta may be distinguished from chlorophyll-using multicellular algae by having sterile tissue within the reproductive organs. Furthermore, embryophytes are primarily adapted for life on land, although some are secondarily aquatic. Accordingly, they are often called land plants or terrestrial plants.

Les Embryophytes (Embryophyta), autrefois dénommées Cormophytes (« plantes à tige », du latin cormus : tige ; du grec kormos, tronc) ou Archégoniates (végétaux dont le gamétange femelle est un archégone), rassemblent ce qu'on appelle les plantes terrestres. Elles forment un groupe monophylétique, qui s'est développé parmi les chlorobiontes durant l'ère paléozoïque et s'est adapté avec succès à la vie sur la terre ferme, qu'elles ont progressivement colonisée. Ce terme de plantes terrestres n'interdit pas que certaines d'entre elles se soient par la suite adapté aux milieux aquatiques (à la manière des cétacés chez les animaux).

Mit ihnen befasst sich wissenschaftlich die Disziplin der Botanik.Historisch hat sich die Definition des Begriffs Pflanze gewandelt. In der hier verwendeten Systematik nach Adl et al. sind die Pflanzen mit den Landpflanzen (Embryophyta) gleichgesetzt. Zu den Pflanzen zählen die Moose und die Gefäßpflanzen.

Rośliny lądowe, rośliny telomowe, rośliny wyższe, rośliny osiowe, organowce, osiowce, pędowce (Embryophyta, Telomophyta, Cormophyta) - grupa roślin o różnej randze systematycznej w zależności od ujęcia (zwykle takson w randze podkrólestwa, gromady lub grupy). Obejmuje rośliny, które wyodrębniły się z zielenic w erze paleozoicznej. Ze względu na pochodzenie, w rygorystycznych ujęciach systematycznych rośliny te stanowią takson w randze klasy w obrębie zielenic (Embryophyceae). Najbliżej spokrewnioną grupą o wspólnym pochodzeniu są ramienice. Rośliny lądowe wspólnie z nimi zaliczone zostały przez Lewisa i McCourta (2004) do podgromady Streptophytina i gromady Charophyta.

De planten (Plantae) zijn een rijk in het domein der eukaryoten (Eukaryota). De wetenschappelijke discipline plantkunde houdt zich bezig met de studie van het plantenrijk.Planten treden vaak in karakteristieke groepen, de zogenaamde plantengemeenschappen op.De opbouw van een typische plant is meestal bovengronds een of meer stengels met bladeren (en met tot bloemen omgevormde bladeren) en ondergronds wortels. Hierop bestaan echter vele variaties. Zo leeft darmwier bijvoorbeeld totaal anders.
