Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution
Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE) (also known as Enhanced GPRS (EGPRS), or IMT Single Carrier (IMT-SC), or Enhanced Data rates for Global Evolution) is a digital mobile phone technology that allows improved data transmission rates as a backward-compatible extension of GSM. EDGE is considered a pre-3G radio technology and is part of ITU's 3G definition. EDGE was deployed on GSM networks beginning in 2003 – initially by Cingular (now AT&T) in the United States.

Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution
Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE) bezeichnet eine Technik zur Erhöhung der Datenübertragungsrate in GSM-Mobilfunknetzen durch Einführung eines zusätzlichen Modulationsverfahrens. Mit EDGE werden die Datendienste GPRS zu E-GPRS (Enhanced GPRS) und HSCSD zu ECSD erweitert.

Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution
Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE acronyme anglais de tranchant (d'une lame)) est une norme de téléphonie mobile, une évolution du GSM. Elle se révèle d'une part être un excellent complément de l'UMTS pour les opérateurs disposant d'un tel réseau notamment pour offrir les mêmes services à haut débit à davantage d'utilisateurs en zone rurale ou zone suburbaine non dense qu'à ceux en zone urbaine, et, d'autre part, être la préparation et l'amélioration de l'offre de services en vue du lancement d'un réseau 3G qui est malgré tout une condition sine qua non pour les utilisateurs en zone urbaine dense.

Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution
Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE) är, likt GPRS, en uppgradering av GSM-tekniken som tillåter hastigheter över 9 600 bit per sekund. EDGE kan ses som en utökning på GPRS och kallas ibland EGPRS. Med EDGE kan hastigheter som är betydligt högre än för GPRS uppnås.

EDGE
EDGE (skrót od ang. Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution) to technologia używana w sieciach GSM do przesyłania danych.
Jest ona rozszerzeniem dla technologii GPRS (oprócz nazwy EDGE używa się też terminu EGPRS - Enhanced GPRS), poprawiony został w niej interfejs radiowy, dzięki czemu uzyskano około trzykrotne polepszenie przepływności (w większości obecnych systemów teoretycznie do 236.8 kbit/s) oraz możliwość dynamicznej zmiany szybkości nadawania pakietów w zależności od warunków transmisji.
