Dugong
The dugong (Dugong dugon) is a large marine mammal which, together with the manatees, is one of four living species of the order Sirenia. It is the only living representative of the once-diverse family Dugongidae; its closest modern relative, Steller's sea cow (Hydrodamalis gigas), was hunted to extinction in the 18th century. It is also the only sirenian in its range, which spans the waters of at least 37 countries throughout the Indo-Pacific, though the majority of dugongs live in the northern waters of Australia between Shark Bay and Moreton Bay. The dugong is the only strictly marine herbivorous mammal, as all species of manatee use fresh water to some degree.

Dugong
Der Dugong (Dugong dugon), seltener auch Gabelschwanzseekuh oder Seeschwein genannt, ist der einzige heute noch lebende Vertreter der Gabelschwanzseekühe (Dugongidae), die zusammen mit dem Rundschwanzseekühen oder Manatis die Ordnung der Seekühe (Sirenia) bilden. Die Manatiarten suchen gelegentlich das Süßwasser auf, der Dugong jedoch so selten, dass er als einziges noch heute lebendes, vollkommen meeresbewohnendes, pflanzenfressendes Säugetier gilt. Sein heutiges Verbreitungsgebiet umfasst die Küsten des Indischen Ozeans und Teile des Westpazifiks. Die Bestände vor Australien haben bedeutenden Umfang - die übrigen sind sehr klein.

Dugong
Le dugong (Dugong dugon) est une espèce de mammifère marin au corps fuselé, vivant sur les littoraux de l'océan Indien et de l'océan Pacifique ouest. Il constitue, avec les trois espèces de lamantins, l'ordre des siréniens. C'est la seule espèce du genre Dugong.

Dugong
Dugong (Dugong dugon) är ett däggdjur som lever längs kusterna av Indiska oceanen, Madagaskar, östra Afrika och norra Australien. Dugongen är den enda nu levande arten i sitt släkte och även i familjen dugonger (Dugongidae). Tillsammans med manater bildar den ordningen sirendjur (Sirenia).

Diugon
Długość ciała do 3 m, ciężar do 170 kg. Ciało krępe, masywne, pysk tępo zakończony, w przedniej części żuchwy i szczęki górnej tarcze rogowe, służące do rozcierania roślin. Żywi się trawą morską. Górna warga ruchliwa, silnie rozwinięta, porośnięta krótką szczeciną, oczy małe, brak małżowin usznych. Tułów walcowaty, zwężający się ku tyłowi, kończyny przednie w kształcie płetw, z zaznaczonymi pięcioma palcami, kończyny tylne zredukowane. Na płetwach piersiowych brak kopytek, które występują u manatów. Płetwa ogonowa u diugonia rozwidlona i wcięta, ustawiona w płaszczyźnie poziomej. Nie ma płetwy grzbietowej. Zamieszkuje wody przybrzeżne tropikalnej strefy Oceanu Indyjskiego i Spokojnego. Populacja około 10 tys. osobników zamieszkuje obszar Wielkiej Rafy Koralowej i wody przybrzeżne Nowej Gwinei. Uważa się, że przed 1970 rokiem duża populacja diugoni zamieszkiwała wody u wybrzeży Mozambiku i Kenii.
