A dragonfly is a double winged insect belonging to the order Odonata, the suborder Epiprocta or, in the strict sense, the infraorder Anisoptera (from Greek ανισος anisos, "uneven" + πτερος pteros, "wings", due the hindwing being broader than the forewing). It is characterized by large multifaceted eyes, two pairs of strong transparent wings, and an elongated body. Dragonflies are similar to damselflies, but the adults can be differentiated by the fact that the wings of most dragonflies are held away from, and perpendicular to, the body when at rest. Dragonflies possess six legs (like any other insect), but most of them cannot walk well. Dragonflies are some of the fastest insects in the world.

DragonFly BSD is a free Unix-like operating system created as a fork of FreeBSD 4.8.  Matthew Dillon, an Amiga developer in the late 1980s and early 1990s and a FreeBSD developer between 1994 and 2003, began work on DragonFly BSD in June 2003 and announced it on the FreeBSD mailing lists on July 16, 2003.

DragonFly BSD ist ein freies Unix-Derivat. Das Betriebssystem basiert auf den Quelltexten von FreeBSD-STABLE 4.8 vom 16. Juni 2003 und gehört somit zu der Familie der BSD-Betriebssysteme. Es läuft zur Zeit auf PCs mit i386-basiertem Prozessor, eine Version für die AMD64-Plattform wird derzeit entwickelt. Weitere Architekturen, die FreeBSD bereits unterstützt, werden zunächst nicht vorbereitet.

Les odonates (Odonata), ou odonatoptères, sont un d'insectes à corps allongé, dotés de deux paires d'ailes membraneuses généralement transparentes, et dont les yeux composés et généralement volumineux leur permettent de chasser efficacement leurs proies. Ce sont des prédateurs, que l'on peut rencontrer occasionnellement dans tout type de milieu naturel, mais qui se retrouvent plus fréquemment aux abords des zones d'eau douce à saumâtre, stagnante à faiblement courante, dont ils ont besoin pour se reproduire.
