dose-response relationship

The Dose-response relationship describes the change in effect on an organism caused by differing levels of exposure (or doses) to a stressor (usually a chemical). This may apply to individuals (eg: a small amount has no observable effect, a large amount is fatal), or to populations (eg: how many people are affected at different levels of exposure).

In der Pharmakologie beschreiben Dosis-Wirkungs-Kurven graphisch den Zusammenhang zwischen der verabreichten Dosis eines Wirkstoffs und seiner Wirkung. Die Wirkung kann sich dabei auf ein Individuum beziehen oder auf eine Gruppe von Individuen. Es wird unterschieden zwischen monotonen und nicht-monotonen Kurven.

Dos-responssamband beskriver hur kroppen svarar på en viss koncentration av t.ex. ett läkemedel. Detta brukar illustreras med en dos-responskurva som ofta kan beskrivas teoretiskt med en sigmoid funktion då koncentrationen logaritmeras.
