Doom (or DOOM) is a 1993 computer game by id Software that is a landmark title in the first-person shooter genre. It is widely recognized for pioneering immersive 3D graphics, networked multiplayer gaming on the PC platform, and support for custom expansions (WADs). Distributed as shareware, Doom was downloaded by an estimated 10 million people within two years, popularizing the mode of gameplay and spawning a gaming subculture; as a sign of its impact on the industry, games from the mid-1990s boom of first-person shooters are often known simply as "Doom clones". Its graphic and interactive violence has also made Doom the subject of much controversy reaching outside the gaming world. Doom (wymowa IPA: , ang. fatum, przeznaczenie, zły los) - trzecia w kolejności po Wolfensteinie 3D gra komputerowa z gatunku FPS, napisana przez programistów firmy id Software. Mimo że powstała w 1993 roku, nadal ma swoich zwolenników. W owym czasie była jedną z nielicznych gier pozwalających na komputerach z procesorem 80386, 4 MB pamięci RAM i kartą graficzną VGA osiągać realistyczne efekty i dynamicznie poruszać się bohaterem w trzech wymiarach, gdy w jej poprzedniczce dostępna była jedynie nawigacja postacią w płaszczyźnie poziomej. Wprowadziła na stałe do gatunku FPS rozgrywki multiplayer typu deathmatch.

Doom (o DOOM) è un videogioco creato da id Software nel 1993 ed è, assieme a Wolfenstein 3d, uno dei padri degli sparatutto in prima persona (o FPS - First person shooter). Combinando un notevole uso della grafica 3D ed un elevato grado di violenza, in breve tempo divenne incredibilmente popolare. È stato stimato che la versione shareware (che comprende il primo dei tre episodi del gioco) sia stata giocata da almeno 15 milioni di persone. Doom fu uno dei primi giochi d'azione ad avere il supporto della rete, per sfide in multiplayer.
