Stressor
Als Stressoren, zu deutsch Stressfaktoren, werden alle inneren und äußeren Reiz-Ereignisse bezeichnet, die eine adaptive Reaktion (Anpassungsfähigkeit) erfordern. Der Organismus interpretiert die auf ihn einwirkenden Reize und ihre Auswirkungen für die jeweilige Situation und bewertet sie entweder positiv oder negativ. Alles, was momentan nützlich, angenehm, befriedigend ist, wird in diesem Prozess positiv bewertet.

Distress
Distress è forma aulica del termine stress, di cui condivide appieno il significato. In italiano si utilizza solo in medicina per una particolare malattia polmonare. Stress è la forma aferetica, come sport lo è di diporto.
- Sindrome da distress respiratorio malattia polmonare che si manifesta nelle sue due forme del bambino e dell'adulto (ARDS).
- Distress (romanzo) di fantascienza di Greg Egan nel quale distress è una non meglio precisata malattia mentale.
