Work of art
In
fine art, a work of art (or artwork or work) is a creation, such as a
song,
book,
film,
print,
sculpture or a
painting, that has been made in order to be a thing of beauty in itself or a
symbolic statement of meaning, rather than having a practical function. Since
modernism, the field of
fine art has expanded to include
photography (and
fine art photography in particular),
film (and
art film in particular),
performance art,
conceptual art, and
video art.What is perceived as a work of
art differs between cultures and eras and by the meaning of the term '"
art" itself. Up until the 1970s, for example,
art critics and the general public tended to exclude
applied arts from works of art.

Disegno (Renaissance)
Disegno (ital.), von lat. designare (bezeichnen, zeichnen, im Umriss darstellen), bedeutet
Zeichnung sowohl als künstlerische Idee, Entwurf, geistiges Konzept in einem religiösen Sinne. Das disegno ist der zentrale Begriff der bildenden Kunst der
Renaissance in
Italien und entwickelt sich zwischen Anfang des 15. bis Ende des 16. Jahrhunderts zu einer eigenständigen Kategorie. Er wird mit dem heutigen Begriff der
Zeichnung nicht sinnvoll übersetzt. Der rinascimentale Begriff des disegno bezeichnet kein beliebiges Zeichnen oder Entwerfen. Die maßgebliche
Kunsttheorie der Zeit sieht im disegno das herausragende Mittel in dem sich die Idee Gottes konkretisieren soll. Insbesondere der Einfluss der
Säkularisation und der
Kunstakademie im 19. Jahrhundert reduziert den ursprünglich halb religiösen, halb wissenschaftlichen Renaissancebegriff des disegno auf die Qualität eines Hilfsmittels im Sinne eines Vorstudiums zu wirklichen Werken.
Giorgio Vasari führt für Malerei, Bildhauerei und Architektur den Begriff "arti del disegno" ein. Maßgeblich unter seinem Einfluss gründet man 1563 in
Florenz die „Accademia del disegno“, welche bis heute fortbesteht.
