direct-to-video

A film that is released direct-to-video (also known as made-for-video, straight-to-video and, more recently, straight-to-DVD) is one which has been released to the public on home video formats (historically VHS) before or without being released in movie theaters or broadcast on television. The term is also at times used as a derogatory term for sequels of films that are not expected to have financial success.

Le vidéofilm est une branche de la production audiovisuelle particulièrement destinée à une diffusion sous format vidéo, c'est à dire VHS, LD, VCD, DVD ou Blu-Ray Disc. Le vidéofilm a la particularité d'être diffusé dans un premier temps en vidéo, même s'il peut par la suite être diffusé à la télévision. On oppose ce concept à celui de film diffusé au cinéma, téléfilm diffusé à la télévision et spectacle joué au théâtre. Même si un film, un téléfilm ou un spectacle finissent par être distribués sous forme de vidéo, ils ne seront pas qualifiés de vidéofilm.

Eine Direct-to-DVD-Produktion-Produktion, auch Straight-to-DVD und früher häufig Direct-to-Video, ist eine Filmproduktion, die direkt für den Videomarkt hergestellt wird. Da ein Teil der Verwertungskette fehlt, handelt es sich meist um billig produzierte Filme. Auch Pornofilme werden naturgemäß häufig nur für Videos produziert, da sie in den meisten Kinos und im unverschlüsselten Fernsehen nicht gezeigt werden dürfen.

Un film che viene distribuito in modalità Direct-to-video (conosciuto anche come made-for-video, straight-to-video e, più recentemente, straight-to-DVD) è un prodotto cinematografico non destinato alle sale cinematografiche. Infatti, il lungometraggio Direct-to-video può essere recuperato solo su supporti Home Video come il DVD o la VHS.

Een film die wordt uitgebracht als direct-to-video (ook wel direct-to-video, made-for-video of straight-to-video genoemd) is een film die voor het publiek eerder op video (meestal VHS) beschikbaar is dan in de bioscoop (bioscoopfilm) of op televisie (televisiefilm).Tegenwoordig wordt de term nog steeds gebruikt; ook al verschijnen films nu op dvd. "Video" slaat dan ook niet uitsluitend op VHS-cassettes. Een nieuwe term die wel gebruikt wordt is DVDP ("DVD Première").Een direct-naar-videofilm zijn meestal van mindere kwaliteit dan bioscoopfilms; zowel in technisch als artistiek opzicht. Soms is een film in het postproductieproces als de filmstudio beseft dat de film niet goed genoeg is voor de bioscopen, maar er zijn ook films die van het begin af aan zich richten op de video- (en in een later stadium) televisiemarkt, zoals veel vervolgfilms (bijvoorbeeld diverse Disney-animatiefilms).
