A digital system is one that uses discrete values (often electrical voltages), representing numbers or non-numeric symbols such as letters or icons, for input, processing, transmission, storage, or display, rather than a continuous range of values (ie, as in an analog system).The distinction between "digital" and "analog" can refer to method of input, data storage and transfer, or the internal working of a device. The word comes from the same source as the word digit and digitus: the Latin word for finger (counting on the fingers) as these are used for discrete counting.

Digital+ is a Spanish satellite platform who offers a variety of channels, national and international and pay per view films and football, known as "Taquilla". It is a subdivision of Sogecable, and was founded in July 23,2003 as a result of the merger of Via Digital (owned by Telefónica) and Canal Satélite Digital (owned by Sociedad de Television Canal Plus S.A.).

La Digital Equipment Corporation è stata un'industria pionieristica del settore informatico negli Stati Uniti d'America. Generalmente veniva utilizzato l'acronimo DEC. (Utilizzato una volta anche dalla DEC stessa, ma subito accantonato e sostituito da "Digital" per evitare una disputa sul marchio con la Dairy Equipment Company di Madison, Wisconsin). In seguito l'azienda è stata acquistata da Compaq, che a sua volta è stata inglobata da Hewlett-Packard. Nel 2004 la relativa linea di prodotti viene commercializzata con il marchio HP.

Digitale deriva da digit che in inglese significa cifra; a sua volta digit deriva dal latino digitus che significa dito. In definitiva, digitale è ciò che è rappresentato con i numeri, che si contano appunto con le dita. Al posto di digitale la lingua italiana prevede il termine numerico. Al giorno d'oggi il termine numerico ed il neologismo digitale possono essere considerati sinonimi.

Een digitaal (afkomstig van het Latijnse woord digitus, dat vinger betekent omdat men vroeger met de vingers (af)telde) signaal is in essentie een reeks gehele getallen. Deze reeks getallen kan een analoog elektrisch signaal representeren, bv. een geluidssignaal (audio) of een beeldsignaal (video). Het omzetten van een analoog signaal naar een digitaal signaal noemt men analoog-digitaal (AD) conversie. Deze digitale representatie van een analoog signaal heeft vele voordelen: de opslag, verwerking en transmissie van het digitale signaal (de reeks getallen) kan in theorie foutvrij verricht worden; fouten of onnauwkeurigheden zijn uitsluitend bij de AD-conversie onvermijdelijk.

Digital Equipment Corporation of kortweg DEC en later Digital was een van de pioniersbedrijven in de Amerikaanse computerindustrie, opgericht door Ken Olsen in 1957. Het hoofdkantoor van DEC was gevestigd in Maynard, Massachusetts, ten westen van Boston. DEC heeft altijd een ietwat "informele" houding gehad ten opzichte van de gevestigde computerindustrie zoals IBM. De naam van hun lijn minicomputers, "PDP", stond voor "Programmable Data Processor" en was zo gekozen dat een afdeling er één zou kunnen kopen zonder dat een  IT-afdeling zich er mee hoefde te bemoeien. Dit blijkt, bijvoorbeeld, ook uit de technische aspecten van Ethernet ten opzichte van IBM's Token-ring.
