dictionary

A dictionary is a list of words with their definitions, a list of characters with their glyphs, or a list of words with corresponding words in other languages. In a few languages, words can appear in many different forms, but only the lemma form appears as the main word or headword in most dictionaries. Many dictionaries also provide pronunciation information; grammatical information; word derivations, histories, or etymologies; illustrations; usage guidance; and examples in phrases or sentences. Dictionaries are most commonly found in the form of a book, but more and more dictionaries, like StarDict, are produced as a software runs from electronic PDA or a general purpose computer. There are also many online dictionaries, which are accessible via the Internet and which may use online databases. Most dictionaries are produced by lexicographers. Dictionaries are usually in alphabetical order and sold all around the world.

Un dictionnaire est un ouvrage de référence énumérant des mots simples ou composés, classés généralement par ordre alphabétique, sous leur lemme, accompagnés de leurs définitions ou de leurs équivalents dans une autre langue. Beaucoup de dictionnaires renseignent sur la prononciation, l'étymologie et donnent des marques d'usage ainsi que des exemples de phrases, et des références qui peuvent être temporelles, idéologiques, sectorialisées ou autres. Ein Wörterbuch ist ein Nachschlagewerk, das Wörter oder andere sprachliche Einheiten in einer Liste verzeichnet, meist in alphabetischer Sortierung, und jedem Eintrag (Lemma) erklärende Informationen oder sprachliche Äquivalente zuordnet. Ein Wörterbuch im engeren Sinn dient zum Nachschlagen sprachlicher Information, während der Ausdruck in der weiteren Bedeutung auch andere nach Stichwörtern gegliederte Nachschlagewerke mit primär sachbezogener Information sowie Mischformen beider Typen umfasst.

Słownik - zbiór słów lub wyrażeń ułożonych i opracowanych według jakiejś zasady. Dzieli się na artykuły hasłowe ułożone w porządku alfabetycznym, rzadko tematycznym. Rodzaj słownika określa zasadę budowy artykułu hasłowego i sposób uporządkowania. Pod pojęciem tym rozumiemy też zasób słów jakiejś osoby.
