Zulfiqar is the legendary sword of the Islamic leader Ali. In Arabic the name is commonly transliterated as Thulfeqar, Dhulfiqar. The scimitar is one of the oldest and best known symbols of Islam, and is particularly important to Shiite Muslims.  Imam Husayn bin Ali used Zulfiqar in the Battle of Karbala, and as a consequence, seen as a symbol of honour and martyrdom. A few conflicting images of the sword exist. While some show two parallel blades to emphasize its mystical abilities and speed, while others portray a more traditionally-shaped scimitar. Some depict a split, V-shaped blade. Shi'a Muslims, who consider Ali as the rightful successor to Muhammad, consider the sword to be exceptional because its bearers were both Muhammad and Ali, who was highly regarded among Muslims and non-Muslims. By most accounts, Muhammad presented Zulfiqar to a young Ali at the Battle of Uhud. During the battle, Ali struck one of the fiercest adversaries, breaking both his helmet and his shield. Seeing this, Muhammad was reported to have said "La fatà illa Ali, la saif illa Zulfiqar" ( لا فتى إلا علي لا سيف إلا ذو الفقار ), meaning "There is no hero but Ali, and no sword except Zulfiqar". This is widely engraved on weapons and has become a battle cry for some Muslims.

Dhû'l-fiqâr ou plus souvent Zulfikar ou Zulfiqar ([], , celle qui a l'épine) est le nom du cimeterre à deux pointes que Mahomet (Mohammed) a trouvé dans le butin de la bataille de Badr. Mahomet l’a donnée à Ali lors de la bataille de Uhud. Zulfikar est l'un des symboles les plus anciens et les mieux connus de l'islam. Zulfikar (również Dhu'l-Fakar, Zu'l-fikar, arab. ﺭﺎﻘﻔﻟﺍﻭﺫ) – mityczny miecz proroka Mahometa i syna Fatimy, jego ukochanej, Alego ibn Abi Taliba (stąd też kolejna nazwa miecza - miecz Alego), jeden z najstarszych symboli Islamu. Zgodnie z przekazami Zulfikar został zdobyty przez Mahometa w bitwie pod Badr w 624 roku i przekazany przez niego tuż przed swoją śmiercią Alemu. Husajn ibn Ali wnuk Mahometa, syn Alego miał użyć Zulfikaru przeciw umajjadzkiemu kalifowi Jazidowi I w bitwie pod Karbalą.Zulfikar wyobrażany był jako sejmitar o rozdwojonych ostrzach, na wzór litery V, z jelcem ozdobionym głowami wężów. Jako jeden z najświętszych symboli arabskiej kultury był częstym motywem dekoracyjnym, w szczególności chorągwi i proporców wojennych.

Zulfikar (Dhu'l-Fakar), ook wel Zulfiqar genoemd, was het tweepuntige zwaard van Mohammed en zijn schoonzoon, kalief Ali ibn Abi Talib. De sabel is een van de bekendste symbolen uit de Islam, en voor de moslims net zo belangrijk als het zwaard Excalibur voor de Britten.

Zülfikâr (Arapça: ذو الفقار, Farsça: ذوالفقار), İslam dininin peygamberi Muhammed'in damadı ve dördüncü halife Ali'nin çatal şeklinde iki başlı kılıcının adıdır. Zû "sahip", fakara "deldi" demektir. Kelimenin tamamı delici anlamına gelir. Halife Ali'nin Uhud savaşında Kureyş’in önde gelen savaşçılarından dokuz kişiyi öldürdüğü, bu savaşta bedeninden yetmiş yara alarak son ana kadar peygamberi savunduğu, bu sebeple de Cebrail'in, “Zülfikar'dan başka kılıç, Ali’den başka da yiğit yoktur.” ("La fata illa Ali, la saif illa Zülfikâr" Arapça: لا فتى الا على لا سيف الا ذوالفقار) dediği rivayet edilir. Zülfikâr'ın Topkapı Sarayı'nda olduğu iddia edilir. Diğer rivayetlere göre Halife Ali'nin vasiyeti üzerine Necef'te denize atıldığı belirtilmiş ve sonradan Med'den gelen Ebu Müslüm Horasani bulmuş.
